Worcestershire & Herefordshire Ladies County Golf Ltd

Message From The County Captain

Welcome to the new website for the Worcestershire and Herefordshire Ladies County Golf Association.

The Worcestershire Ladies Association was formed in 1903 and was joined by the ladies of Herefordshire in the 1970s.

The W&HLCGA is committed to promoting our sport to all lady golfers in Worcestershire and Herefordshire regardless of age or ability.  Our events are intended to bring people together in a social environment where competitions are run in the best spirit of the game.

In addition W&HLCGA is dedicated to using the members subscriptions towards the development of all Worcestershire and Herefordshire teams and the promotion of junior golf.

I would like to welcome the new members onto our committee. Following the AGM we currently do not have an elected President. The role is being shared by the Past Presidents and Yvonne Foley is kindly taking the lead.

Janice Kerr (Redditch Golf Club) is our new Chairman. In addition to this role she is team leader for our ladies course rating team and acting as the England Golf voting delegate.

Vivienne Cranton and Sue Garforth (both Redditch Golf Club) are managing our competitions with Judy Williams (Blackwell Ladies) our Fixtures Secretary.

This year I am introducing a new role to support me as Captain during our preseason county matches and in County Match Week. I have appointed Karen Greenfield (an existing 1st team player) as 1st Team Manager.

I am sorry we haven’t been able to play in any of our Winter Alliances so far and unfortunately we have had to cancel the March Alliance at Bromsgrove, the three ball meeting and the Vida Kirk, Barbara Chamberlain in April.

As a committee we are doing our upmost to try and make it possible for us all to take part in most of our competitions in 2021.

Entry qualification for competitions will be based on each player’s WHS Handicap Index at date of entry. We have decided, given these uncertain times, that it would not be sensible to change our handicap limits from what they were pre-WHS. So we will test drive it and review everything at the end of the season. The limits for the Bronze Team event will therefore remain at 21- 36.

With this new Website, we can accept online entries for W&HLCGA ladies events. The entries will open two months before the date of each competition. This is because of the difficulties we experienced last year on the occasions when refunds had to be made.

We are not printing the Green books this year but members and clubs can enter online through a tab on the Home page. Entry forms for team events will be available to clubs in due course.

W&HLCGA does not cater solely for the elite, but runs events for the higher handicapper. Some of the 2022 fixtures are already in place, but if your club would like to host an event, whether it be a Winter Alliance or any of the main season events, or perhaps your club is hosting its Centenary or is 125 years old, either in 2022 or 2023 and you would like to hold an event at your club in what we’re sure will be a special year for you, then please get in touch and Judy will see what can be organised.

Finally, if there is anyone interested in joining our committee or would like to help out at one of our competitions we would love to hear from you. We are currently seeking for someone to take on the role of 2nd Team Captain as Naomi Austin has extended her term of office. This is a very rewarding position and Naomi tells me its not too demanding and lots of fun! If you would like a chat please come forward and get involved.

Wishing you all a great golfing year!
