  • If a player is U10 at time of competition, a walker must be provided by the club to walk with the match.
  • The competition must be medal strokeplay, played from the red tees.
  • The club to give separate prizes for the girls’ field, to include gross and nett prizes.
  • When formalising the timesheet, it is acceptable for boys to be paired with girls of similar handicaps.
  • Club entry form to advertise that the junior open is part of the WHLCGA Junior Girls’ Order of Merit.

The new golfing season is now upon us and it is that time of year when we all start to plan our schedule for the year ahead.   There are a number of clubs who have not finalised their Junior Open dates for 2021, so we have some new venues this year.  There are 7 Junior Opens in the OOM, plus the Junior Championships.  The Girls Order of Merit always starts with the Droitwich Girls Open but due to Covid it was cancelled completely this year. The full list of OOM events are shown below.   Most of these events already have entry forms available on the Golf Empire website (

The awarding of points will be made after the results are known and will appear on the WHLCGA website (, Junior menu.   Points will be awarded to any girl who is a member of a Worcestershire or Herefordshire affiliated club according to her finishing position in the event.    You must enter at least 3 events to win a prize.   Points are awarded as follows:-

Place Points
1st 150
2nd 120
3rd 100
4th 90
5th 80
6th 70
7th 60
8th 50
9th 40
10th 30

All events will have points awarded for GROSS and NETT positions.   The Junior County Championship will be treated as two competitions – the 36 hole strokeplay and the 18 hole Stableford.   Double points will be awarded  only  for the placings in the 36 hole event.

A cumulative points table will be posted on the WHLCGA website, Junior menu.

At the end of the season there will be 3 overall OOM prizes.    A best Gross, and 1st and 2nd Nett.    The best Gross will receive £50 and trophy, the 1st Nett will receive £30 and trophy and 2nd Nett will receive £20.    The prizes will be in the form of vouchers.  In addition, we have secured sponsorship from Glenmuir and their prizes will also be awarded.    In the event of an outright winner of both Gross and Nett prizes, both trophies will be awarded to the winner, but only one voucher.  All ties will be decided by a count-back on the number of 1st place finishes, 2nd place finishes if required, and so on, over the whole season.   The decision of the County Junior Committee will be final.

You do not have to pay to enter the OOM.   When you play in any of the Junior Opens chosen, your results will be returned to the County and the spreadsheet will be updated accordingly.

It is not too soon to map out your season and get your entry forms in for these Junior Opens.   The more events you enter, the more chance you have of winning.  Remember, you need to enter at least 3 events to win a prize.

Good luck.
